4 New Items Added to Designated Sectors
Recently The National Treasury added four new sectors/industries to the list of Designated Sectors, which are sectors that have been identified to have a certain percentage of Local Content. In other words – these Designated Sectors goods must be manufactured locally or at least a certain percentage of these goods must be manufactured locally.
The four new Designated Sectors/industries are:
- Solar PV components;
- Two Way Radio Terminals and Associated Equipment;
- Rail signaling;
- Wheely Bins.
If you are manufacturing or supplying any of these goods you will have to comply with the Local Content percentages. You can find these percentages by visiting this link: http://www.dti.gov.za/industrial_development/ip.jsp
You will be required to complete a SBD 6.2 or MBD 6.3 form. The National Treasury is also considering other industries, sectors and sub-sectors for designation. Once thorough research and consultations have been concluded, a decision to designate will be communicated to the public.
Attend one of the How-to-Tender workshops to learn how to complete the SBD 6.2 or MBD 6.3 forms.
